How to scan documents to PDF for UAE applications
By PDFEditor.ae · Published
Start with the best source
A good scan is easy to read without being needlessly large. Begin with the recipient's instructions and the best source you have.
If the recipient asks for an issuer's original digital document, use that original — printing and scanning it creates a different copy. MOFA's digital-attestation guidance, for example, distinguishes original digital documents from photographs or scans.

Prepare the paper document
Lay the page on a flat, plain surface, remove anything that casts a shadow and use even light. For a booklet, capture the requested pages without forcing the binding.
Keep the whole page in view unless told otherwise. Small stamps, notes near the edge and information on the back can matter, so check what is requested before deciding which sides to capture.
Capture a readable image
Hold the camera parallel to the page and check each image straight away for blur, reflections, curved lines and missing corners. Retake it if relevant details are unclear.
Avoid heavy filters that change how the document looks. Image processing must never create, remove or alter official information. For ordinary paper copies, crop extra background while keeping the whole document.
Convert the images into a PDF
If your scanner does not save PDF directly, use a converter that matches the image format — JPG to PDF for JPG files, PNG to PDF for PNG. For several pages, settle the order before converting and check the downloaded result.
Do not combine different documents just because you scanned them together. Follow the recipient's attachment structure, especially when the form asks for separate uploads.
Balance size with readability
Measure the saved file and compare it with the limit. If it is too large, use a more efficient scanner setting or smaller source images on a working copy, then check it again.
A tiny PDF with unreadable text is no use. Check names, numbers, dates and signatures at normal size, and keep the first scans as backups until the recipient confirms what they need.
Is there one scanning resolution for every UAE application?
This guide does not set a universal specification. Follow any resolution, format or dimension requirements the receiving service gives.
