The limit belongs to the recipient
An employer, bank, landlord or online portal may ask for a copy of your Emirates ID. When the upload fails, it is tempting to search for one Emirates ID PDF size limit — but there is no single official limit that applies to every copy. Check the upload field, or ask the recipient for the accepted format, maximum size and layout.
Find out what the recipient wants
Ask whether they want a scanned copy of the card, an official digital document or another form of identity check, whether both sides are needed, and whether they should be in one file, on one page or in separate attachments.
A PDF made from photographs of the card is not the same as an official digital document. Do not assume one satisfies a request for the other.
Create a readable copy
Place the card on a plain surface in even light and photograph each requested side without glare. Check the smallest text before converting.
Crop empty background without cutting into the card. Avoid decoration, heavy filters or watermarks unless the recipient allows them.
Convert and check the result
- If a two-page PDF is accepted, add the front and back photos to JPG to PDF.
- Reopen the PDF and confirm both pages are there, in the right order.
- Check the downloaded file's size against the recipient's limit.
- If it is too large, try compression or make smaller source photos that stay readable. Never drop a required side to save space.
Treat identity copies carefully
Send the file only to the intended organisation, through the channel they agreed. If your employer requires approved software for identity documents, follow that policy. Read an online tool's privacy terms before uploading a copy.
Keep the original photos separately so you can make a new file if the recipient asks for a different layout.
Should I aim for 1 MB or 2 MB?
Aim for the receiving form's actual limit. A smaller file only helps if it stays readable and still meets the request.
