How to remove unwanted pages from a PDF

By PDFEditor.ae · Published

Count positions, not printed numbers

Delete Pages works with the position of each page in the file: the first page is 1, the second is 2, and so on. That is often different from the number printed in the footer — a report may start its numbering after a cover and contents page. Open the PDF in a viewer and use the page counter (for example "3 / 12") to find the positions you want to remove.

Steps

  1. Keep a copy of the original PDF.
  2. Open Delete Pages and upload the file.
  3. Enter the positions to remove, separated by commas, with ranges where useful — for example 1,4-6.
  4. Click Delete Pages and download the new file.

Check the result

  • The new page count equals the old count minus the pages you removed.
  • The pages on either side of each gap are the ones you expected.
  • If you entered every page, the tool stops and asks you to keep at least one.

Keeping pages instead

If you want to keep a few pages out of many, it is quicker to list the ones to keep with Extract Pages.
