How to remove a blank scan without losing a page

By PDFEditor.ae · Published

Blank or nearly blank?

Double-sided scanning creates a page for the back of every sheet, even when it is empty. But some "blank" backs carry faint content: a page number, a stamp, a handwritten initial, or text showing through from the other side. Deleting the wrong one can remove something that mattered.

Find the truly blank pages

  1. Open the PDF and zoom each suspected page to at least 100%.
  2. Look in the corners and margins for stamps, initials and page numbers.
  3. Note the positions of pages that are empty.

Delete them

  1. Open Delete Pages and upload the scan.
  2. Enter the positions you noted, such as 2,4,6.
  3. Download and compare the page count with your list.

Some blank pages are intentional

In a scanned booklet or a printed report, blank pages can separate chapters or keep chapters starting on a right-hand page. Ask whether the recipient wants a faithful copy of the original or a streamlined reading copy. If you remove them for convenience, keep the full scan as the record.

Printed page numbers do not update

Page numbers printed on the pages are part of the page image or text, so they keep their old values after you delete a page. If the recipient needs continuous numbering, add new page numbers in a position that does not overlap the old ones.

Keep the original

Keep the unedited scan until the recipient has accepted the document. If someone later asks about a missing back page, you can check it.
