How to correct a typo in a PDF before sending it
By PDFEditor.ae · Published
Decide what kind of document it is
- A draft you created: fix it in the source file if you have it, or edit the PDF.
- A scan: there is no text to edit; you can only cover and type over the error.
- A signed or officially issued document: do not quietly change it. Ask the issuer or the other signatories for a corrected version.
Steps
- Confirm the correct spelling against the source — a name list, product sheet or contract.
- Search the PDF (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) for every occurrence of the wrong spelling and note the pages.
- Correct the source and export again, or open Edit PDF, choose Edit Text and click each occurrence.
- Download and check the corrected word and the spacing around it.
Search before you edit
Do the search first. Edit Text saves each edited page as an image, so after editing, words on those pages no longer show up in a search. Listing every occurrence beforehand makes sure you do not miss one in a table or footer.
Practical example
A proposal spells a product "Recieve Pro" on the cover, page 4 and in a pricing table on page 9. Search finds all three; you fix each one, then read page 9 carefully to make sure a similar product name next to it was not changed by mistake.
Rename the corrected file
Use a clear version label, such as "proposal-acme-2026-10-v2.pdf", so the recipient knows which file replaces the earlier one.
