How to add a reference note to a PDF
By PDFEditor.ae · Published
Find a clear space
Reference notes — a case number, "received on" date or short instruction — belong in an empty margin or header area, not on top of existing text. Look for space at the top of the first page or along the side margin.
Steps
- Open Edit PDF and upload the document.
- Choose Add Text and click in the empty area.
- Type the note; adjust size and colour so it is readable but clearly an addition.
- Drag it into position, then click Save and download.
Check the saved result
- The note appears in the downloaded file, in the same place.
- It does not cover any original text.
- Numbers in the note are correct — re-read them against your source.
Comments instead of text
If the note is feedback rather than part of the document, use Annotate PDF's Comment tool instead.
