How to compress a PDF below 2 MB when an upload form requires it
By PDFEditor.ae · Published
Use the limit the form actually shows
If an upload form asks for a PDF under 2 MB, the job is a readable file that fits that field. Not every UAE portal uses 2 MB — always go by the limit the recipient shows. How far a PDF will shrink depends on what is inside: a text document and a PDF of phone photos behave very differently.
Measure the starting file
Check the saved PDF's size in your device's file information. Keep the original, work on a copy, and open it to see whether it holds digital text, scans or a mix.
If the file is an issuer-supplied original that must stay unchanged, ask the recipient how to submit it instead of running it through a PDF tool.
Try lossless compression first
Our Compress PDF tool optimises the PDF's structure without downsampling images. Upload a working copy, compress it and compare the sizes it reports. PDFs made mostly from scans or photos may shrink very little this way.
Download the result and look at it. A big percentage reduction does not guarantee the file is now under the form's limit — check the actual size.
Improve oversized source scans
If compression is not enough, go back to the source images. Crop empty background while keeping all the content, and if your scanner has settings, make a new copy with a more efficient setting and check it is still readable.
For ordinary unsigned paper scans, rebuilding the PDF from better images usually beats compressing the same file repeatedly. Do not do this with an original digital document whose verification features must be preserved.
Keep required content together
Remove an accidental duplicate page only if it is not part of the requested record, and never drop a required page to meet a limit. Split the document only when the form accepts separate files.
If a complete, readable document still will not fit, contact the recipient and ask for an accepted alternative.
Can compression guarantee a file under 2 MB?
No. Results depend on the file. Check the real output size and follow the receiving form's instructions.
