How to prepare a PDF on a shared computer

Check what you may use
Work and school computers often have rules about which websites can handle documents. Check them first; if online tools are not allowed for a document, do not use them on that computer.
While working
- Use a private or incognito browser window, so history and downloads are less likely to be kept.
- Do not sign in to accounts you do not need; if you sign in, sign out afterwards.
- Do not let the browser save passwords.
- Download results to a folder you will remember to clean up, or straight to your own USB drive.
Before you leave
- Delete the uploaded originals and downloaded results from the computer, and empty the recycle bin if allowed.
- Close the private window.
- If you used a PDF password, do not leave it written anywhere on the desk or screen.
Protect what you take away
If you must carry a sensitive PDF on a shared drive or email it to yourself, add a password first.
